What are we celebrating when we celebrate student scholarship at Cornerstone? We are celebrating the discipline and enthusiasm our students have shown in their academic work. We are celebrating the hours of practice that have gone into developing proficiency in the arts and other creative pursuits. We are celebrating faculty who have dedicated themselves to the craft of teaching and who have willingly given of their time and energy to mentor students. We are celebrating the ways in which students have persisted through difficult circumstances over the past year to pursue their education and to continue their vocational journeys. We are celebrating the love of parents who have supported their sons and daughters on those journeys. And most of all we are celebrating the faithfulness of our Creator, who has called each one of us to be agents of reconciliation in a culture that is perpetually in need of God’s light and mercy and wisdom.
Our academic focus at Cornerstone is directed toward shaping disciples of Jesus who can faithfully navigate complex cultural issues while using the knowledge, skills, and scripture-shaped imaginations they’ve gained here to respond to unforeseen economic, technological, and professional challenges and opportunities. Our annual Celebration of Scholarship provides a glimpse into how Cornerstone students are becoming those types of disciples. For behind every paper read, poster displayed, presentation given, musical piece performed, and media project exhibited are long hours of unseen labor and devotion. But this is just as it should be, since all of our scholarship, rightly pursued, is worship.
