Preparing Your Research

1. Narrow down your topic and list keywords

2. Consult Reference Books

  • Choose "Summon Advanced Search
  • enter your topic and search
  • limit results to 'Reference' - narrowing down your results to dictionaries, encyclopedias, and handbooks

3. Search Subject-Specific Journals

4. Search Print Books & eBooks Available at Miller Library

  • Visit our Library Catalogue, limit to Subject Search, and enter a relevant keyword or keywords
  • Or use Summon Power Search and limit your results to Books/eBooks
  • You can also browse the stacks in-person for books grouped in your subject area (the books beside or near a useful title are also often useful themselves!)

5. Search for Available Books not owned by Miller Library

  • Visit MeL to order print books from libraries within Michigan
  • Visit ILLiad to order books or other references from libraries nationwide

6. Use Zotero to collect and reference your sources
