Copyright Compliance for Cornerstone University

Reserve Suggestions

Consider placing the following types of material on hard copy reserve at the Circulation desk:

  • Books from supplemental reading lists (but NOT course textbooks)
  • Journal articles as allowed by Fair Use guidelines
  • DVDs and other formats, within Fair Use rules.
  • Sample papers (with permission)

Placing Materials on Reserve

Miller Library offers faculty the opportunity to place course-related items on library reserve, provided that use of the material complies with US Copyright Law (Title 17 U.S.C. Section 107) and the fair use guidelines.

Faculty can learn about placing resources on reserve via the Course Reserves Policy page, and items for reserve may be submitted to the Circulation Supervisor

As a safeguard against copyright infringement, the library has taken the following measures:

Print Reserves

  • Materials are housed at the Circulation desk and are available for short-term checkout.

Electronic Reserves

  • Materials are accessible through the library’s web site and are password protected
  • Files are stored on the library’s server
  • Materials placed on e-Reserve are kept for one semester only
  • The library will not scan more than 10% of any book for course reserve

Review the "Common Scenarios" page for more guidelines on the fair use and course reserves.
